St Thomas Basketball Club

History of Club

The St. Thomas Basketball Club was established in 1982 by interested parents seeking to create a Club for their children to learn and improve their basketball skills, coordination, develop teamwork skills and to have a family oriented social environment.
The Club started with 6 boys and 5 girls teams, catering for some 79 players.

Today over 40 years later, the Club has enjoyed many successful seasons, with many Premierships throughout the various age groups, as well as producing many fine players who have gone onto bigger and better achievements.

The Club currently caters for 14 boys and 9 girls teams. This constitutes over 170 families within and around St. Thomas and the greater Greensborough community.
As a successful Club, St. Thomas promotes a “Teams Skills” motto which is about helping all players and teams in developing their skills.

The Mike Kovac Award is a prestigious honour bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and contribution to our local basketball community. Named in memory of Mike Kovac, a revered figure in our basketball history, the award celebrates those who embody his passion, commitment, and spirit. Mike Kovac was a mentor, leader, and advocate for the club and sport. His legacy lives on through this award, which recognises individuals who have made significant impacts both on and off the court, fostering growth, sportsmanship, and unity within our basketball community.

Our Training Venue

Through the 2009-2011 government initiative – ‘Building the Education Revolution’, St Thomas’ was able to construct a fantastic multi-purpose hall.
This hall is able to be used for a multitude of purposes, such as an extra recreational space for the school, various sports – including netball and basketball.
It is also used for performing arts, incorporating a stage, sound system/speakers and a special acoustic design to maximise volume and clarity.

The St Thomas multi-purpose hall is a valuable asset to the St Thomas community.

St Thomas the Apostle Primary School.
We take great pride in our partnership with St Thomas the Apostle Primary School. Over the years, many of their students have become valued members of the Hawks community, and we’re grateful for the use of their outstanding facilities and management.
